Do you ever notice when you go to any meeting that you walk in and everyone tends to sit down near someone they know. Where it’s comfortable.
As a Child Care Center Leader, we must work towards mentoring our Teacher. Supporting their growth as Teachers, Leaders and Women (well mostly women). Growth comes normal to some and uncomfortable to others. That’s part of the amazing journey we each take through life. Creating an opportunity to grow in a comfortable environment is a great way to support this. Assigning seats at Staff Meetings offers so many opportunities.
When you host your Staff Meeting at your Child Care Center you want to see those relationships continuing to grow. While I love it that my Teachers enjoy each other it can also cause disruption at Staff Meetings. Excessive talking while you are trying to get things done. A louder group of girls controlling the conversation while a quiet group of girls sit on the side not really engaging.
Have you tried assign seats at Staff Meetings? Not as a punishment, but as a benefit to taking this time and grouping people that could benefit from one another sitting near each other.
It provides an opportunity to grow new relationships. Kick off the Staff Meeting with a team building exercise, this will sure get them engaging!
Consider sitting one of your amazing Teachers with a new Assistant. Spend some time brainstorming classroom management technique ides. This way during your Staff Meeting they can engage on the topics and the Teacher can mentor the Assistant. You could offer a training and have them work together on brainstorming how to put it into action. Sit Infant Rooms with Toddler Room Teachers so they can see what the training would look like in each age group.
Think of the relationships you would love to see flourish and the training ideas you would love to see happen. Brainstorm a list of quick topics you can have them brainstorm on. Do this at every Staff Meeting and watch the relationships grow and the engagement on new ideas blossom at your Center!
