Setting Boundaries To Get Things Done

DC Facebook Squares (4)

You need to get things done!   I hear you, it’s so easy to let everything pile up and you wait to get it done later in the day or on  your off time.   Here are a few ways to set boundaries so you can get some things done:

  1. Closed door time.   I block time during the day, when it’s the least disruptive for the Center, and tell the Team it’s Closed Door Time.   I close the door, don’t answer the phone, and blast through the work I need to get done.   Don’t check email or go on social media.    Set a time for 30 minutes, 60 or however many you can.   Get it done!
  2. Master To Do Checklist.   I keep a Master To Do Checklist of everything I have to do.   Then on each day of the week I write a few things I need to do to chip away at that checklist.   When I do the Closed Door Time I go to the list.   When the time is done I write where I am at so when I come back to Closed Door Time I know exactly where I left off.   Sometimes that can be a huge part of the problem, we spent so much time getting back into it.
  3. Assign some tasks to a Teacher who is showing promising skills in leadership.   Give them some tasks they can complete to begin to learn administrative tasks, or better yet serve as a go to person when you are in Closed Door Time.
  4. Projects.   Create a master list of projects you would like to get done.   Find a place you can work, uninterrupted free of any distractions.   Set aside 4 hours and work through a project.   The piles are still going to be there when you get back, but now you will be moving the Center forward with your projects.
  5. Training.   Consider taking training on the business side of operating a Center versus child focused.   Look for trainings on time management, project management, or organizational classes.   Sometimes they can inspire you to help you get more things done with creating a system that works for YOU!

Child Care Center Director’s and Owner’s have so much on your plates, I know.   The day can totally get away from you.   I know that when I have my list going and I care out the time, no matter what, I get more things done, feel more productive and I feel accomplished.
